Nike Blazer Hi Vintage

April 28, 2010

Bagged myself a pair of these from Size? in Sheffield this week.

These Nike Blazer sneaks are the perfect casual kicks. They are simple, and that’s what makes them super. Classic lines, neutral colours, a suede upper and a ‘vintage’ outsole really drive home the appeal of the Blazer.

Available at Size? stores nationwide and at the website.

The World Cup is only a couple of months away, and – like me – you are probably salivating like Pavlov’s dog at the prospect of watching Rooney and Co. down the local.

But what to wear? Well, the simple fact is, wearing a nylon football shirt with your nickname and the number ’9′ on the back stopped being cool at about the same time you grew hair round your ‘nads and realised porn wasn’t a chess piece.

But, have no fear, Fred Perry is here. The stalwart of British Heritage clothing has released a neat, sharp looking collection that allows you to represent your nation in style, not nylon-induced sweat. Made from 100% cotton and embroidered with the instantly recognisable Laurel Wreath, these shirts are available in the colourways of some of the world’s greatest footballing nations.

But be quick, as these are available in limited numbers only.

Nike Air Max 1

April 26, 2010

We all have our weaknesses. For those hormonal women left vulnerable and sensitive from a rough break-up, it’s chocolate and Hugh Grant. For me, however, it’s the Nike Air Max 1 (and Eurovision).

The simpler the sneaker, the better. Understated is my kinda eye candy, and the Air Max 1 achieves this perfectly. For those of you who have owned a pair of Air Max 1s you’ll know that these beauties look at their best in classic suede and mesh panelling, with a refreshing colourway to match.

With much of Nike’s work over the past twelve months being focused on the latest, most innovative materials – the Nike Air Max 1 offers the return of classic simplicity at its finest.

Safe yet stand-out colourways, unrivalled comfort and exclusivity make the Air Max 1 a must-have.

Go and pre-order these at  End Clothing, where they’ll be ready to ship to your front door in early May.

Van Dale

April 25, 2010

Through no fault of my own, I know almost nothing of this brand. Y’see, anonymity is the buzz word when it comes to Van Dale.

Yet, this desire to remain anonymous grows not from being pretentious but from the label’s belief that there is no single creator of Van Dale. Rather, today’s contemporary consumers shape the brand.

Van Dale is still young, with its first collection released not long ago, in 2007.

There is no distinct target audience for Van Dale, rather it is aimed at that young, playful side that exists in all of us.

When I got an email this week telling me Lazy Oaf’s SS10 collection had dropped I knew it wouldn’t disappoint. As you would expect from the creative East London collective, fun and colourful t-shirts are aplenty.

New to their menswear range this season is the Oaf polo shirt. Perfectly combining smart with casual, the cotton jersey polo features a button-down colour and four colour buttons at the neck.

For more on Lazy Oaf check out my first post on ‘em here.

Here are some of my favourite garments from their new line.

Trousers London

April 7, 2010

Taking a retrospective look at the blog today, I realised JinjaBeard had neglected many of the great denim / jeanswear brands available away from the mainstream labels. There are some great, high-quality, independent labels out there offering premium denim in great cuts and fits, as well as maintaining an original and experimental ethos.

Trousers London is a great example of such a label, and they definitely strengthen the argument that jeans are worth spending money on. Still a baby in the fashion industry (they celebrated their second-birthday in February) Trousers London offers the customer organic materials of the highest caliber and the opportunity to move away from disposable, high-street jeans and towards the concept of collectible fashion.

The team at Trousers London don’t have your typical fashion industry CV’s but, rather, a variety of résumés from differing backgrounds – from architecture and marketing to business and design. With a sound, sustainable ethos; exceptional materials; meticulous manufacturing; and design driven by originality, this well-rounded label is on to a winner.

Marquis Mills Converse’s shoe company has been a firm favourite of feet everywhere, from the court to the sidewalk, since 1908. Instantly recognised for the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star One sneaker, Converse is the quintessential footwear brand – representing an all-American image.

A staple of many footwear brands’ Spring-Summer collections, the boat / deck shoe is a must-have this year and Converse are making sure they are in on the act with their Edward Boat Jack Purcell – dropping the classic boat shoe in canvas and a variety of nautical colourways.

Negrete

April 3, 2010

I have been searching high and low lately for an independent, preferably British, clothing label. Negrete (pronounced ni-gre-tay) are a London-based label with clothing that reflects its cultural preferences, influenced by travelling, films, music and the many heroes and villans in popular culture.

For the ethically aware amongst us, you’ll be pleased to know their garms are free of sweatshop labour, instead carefully manufactured by a small gathering of walruses housed inside of an aging pizza box.

Negrete

As you’ll see from the tees below, Negrete take classic song lyrics, screw them up and spit them out the otherside combined with sweet graphics.

Slick Rick: The things you own end up owning you.

- Slick Rick

Joy Syringe: When routine bites hard and ambitions are low.

- Joy Division

Money In The Bank: All I need is money in the bank and sneakers on my feet.

- Asaviour and Jehst

Strictly Skills: Strictly about skills, and dope lyrical coastin’, relying on talent, not marketing and promotion.

- KRS-One

Oral: My oral demonstrations be like clitoral stimulation.

- Andre 3000

Drugs: I’m the definition of half man, half drugs.

- Puff Daddy

Kudos to Negrete on the lyrical choices.
