Sucking Lemons

January 11, 2010

I love music, he loves music, she loves music, we all love music. Four other people who love it are blogging quartet Oli Shilling, Stew Green, Stick Mutimer, and Zal Jones. I went to school with these guys and even lost my festival virginity with them at Reading in 2008. The four of them ooze musical knowledge out of their pores and Sucking Lemons is a reflection of this. Reviewing anything from electro to folk music, and everything in between, their blog is definitely worth following. I particularly like their Best Of The Decade posts and, as a BONUS, there is a fair bit of tunage available from the blog.

So a BIG UP to you boys, keep up the good work and I’ll see you back in the shire soon.

ATLiens – OutKast

January 11, 2010

OutKast’s second studio LP, ATLiens, released in August 1996, is the record that got me into hip hop. I wasn’t even seven at the time, and I didn’t pick it up from Andy’s Records (RIP) in Bury St Edmunds until seven years later, when I was 14, . I can listen to this album over, and over, and over, and, well, you get the point… It’s deeper than a Mafia boss’ pockets and is full of earthy flows that set the stage for Andre 3000 and Big Boi to lace it up with their smooth vocals. This is my go-to record whenever I get disillusioned by present day hip hop.

Thank you OutKast.
