Through no fault of my own, I know almost nothing of this brand. Y’see, anonymity is the buzz word when it comes to Van Dale.

Yet, this desire to remain anonymous grows not from being pretentious but from the label’s belief that there is no single creator of Van Dale. Rather, today’s contemporary consumers shape the brand.

Van Dale is still young, with its first collection released not long ago, in 2007.

Lazy Oaf – SS10 Collection

When I got an email this week telling me Lazy Oaf’s SS10 collection had dropped I knew it wouldn’t disappoint. As you would expect from the creative East London collective, fun and colourful t-shirts are aplenty.

New to their menswear range this season is the Oaf polo shirt. Perfectly combining smart with casual, the cotton jersey polo features a button-down colour and four colour buttons at the neck.

Taking a retrospective look at the blog today, I realised JinjaBeard had neglected many of the great denim / jeanswear brands available away from the mainstream labels. There are some great, high-quality, independent labels out there offering premium denim in great cuts and fits, as well as maintaining an original and experimental ethos.

Trousers London is a great example of such a label, and they definitely strengthen the argument that jeans are worth spending money on. I have been searching high and low lately for an independent, preferably British, clothing label. Negrete (pronounced ni-gre-tay) are a London-based label with clothing that reflects its cultural preferences, influenced by travelling, films, music and the many heroes and villans in popular culture.

For the ethically aware amongst us, you’ll be pleased to know their garms are free of sweatshop labour, instead carefully manufactured by a small gathering of walruses housed inside of an aging pizza box.
